Those familiar with sailing dinghy racing will be reassured that we run our racing entirely conventionally according to the World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).

We race on Sundays: one race in the morning, (first signal 11.25), two ("back-to-back") in the afternoon. Our first afternoon race does not start before 14.00.

Most Sunday races form part of our programme of seasonal series races which are scheduled over a period of many weeks. Some days are committed to special club trophy events - usually three races in one day. See our racing programme for details.

All starts and finishes are from our "Committee Boat" from which all race signals are made. As things stand, all dinghies with a Portsmouth Yardstick can enter, starting in a General Handicap Start. The exception is our "Fastest Lap" competition, (usually held on one day in the season) for which there are unique (but logical) arrangements.

We have our committed and expert racers - and look to support them as a very valued part of our community. However, we welcome newcomers and the less-expert. We race for fun and to further improve our skills - and we encourage novices to take part.

Juniors may compete alongside adults in all races. However, many young people prefer to race against their peers in similar classes of boat - and we seek to run junior races when we can.

Sailing Instructions

The "SIs" are our formal document which provides competitors with formal information about how we go about our racing. These include important information such as:-

  1. The format of our racing: start-times, time-limits and information about consecutive races, ie: two or more races which are run "back-to-back"
  2. Any amendments to the rules of racing
  3. Information about issues on our racing area which might affect the general rules
  4. Information about how competitors receive communication about how races are managed
  5. Information about how appeals for redress - or protests against other competitors will be managed

Our Club "SIs" can be provided on request.

Special Competitions ("Open Meetings")

We run open meetings for several classes and welcome approaches from class associations who would like to run an event at Llangorse. A formal Notice of Race (NoR) and SIs for these events are agreed with the class associations and posted in advance.
