What we do

This is a summary for those new to the Club. We welcome those who would like to drop-in to learn more – or contact our Membership Secretary for a chat!

  • We are a dinghy-sailing club, accommodating boats (and small keelboats) up to 20 ft (6.1m) long. We are not a canoe, kayak or stand-up paddleboard club, and members may not use motors of any kind on their craft.
  • During the sailing season members have access to the site, clubhouse and changing rooms and the lake for sailing. Boats may be berthed on-site (for a small fee). The clubhouse includes an honesty “galley” for hot and cold drinks, snacks etc. Supporting neighbouring businesses, we do not allow overnight stays or camping on the Club site.
  • We welcome new members; there is no waiting-list: membership is by a simple application process
  • Members who are training may use club training boats in defined conditions. Most members use their own boats. Members may sail any class of sailing dinghy.
  • We run competitive dinghy sailing races and “open meetings” for several racing classes, and some special events, for example our Disability Sailing Day run in conjunction with relevant external organisations. We manage sailing experience days for Scouts, Guides etc by arrangement.
  • We have a healthy and lively WhatsApp community which keeps everybody informed and involved with our activities
  • Our facilities – including launching  - are solely for members of the club. We do not offer short-term membership, ie: day, weekend or weekly memberships
  • We welcome members who have special needs within the limitations of our site, facilities, equipment and expertise
  • We welcome newcomers to sailing and look to provide safe, fun learning for those who want it. Equally, we provide racing for more experienced sailors
  • Members may bring guests to the club (free of charge) a limited number of times per year.
  • Everything is managed by volunteers: part of our modest membership fee is a commitment by members to assist in the running of the club – for example safety-boat duty, or race-recording. Members can plan what they do and when they do this (from a variety of options) using a simple online process called Dutyman. This can be easily found at the bottom of every page: just click on the rectangular box marked "Dutyman" You will be asked to log in.
