Be Prepared!
"As autumn approaches, members should ensure their boats berthed on-site are flood-ready," says Beachmaster and Vice Commodore, Robert Dangerfield. "In October last year, we experienced two storms which flooded the lake causing some damage. Some boats were difficult to recover because they hadn't been tied-down, transom-bungs tightly in, and sails were left inside the boat."
Robert continues: "I'm calling on all members to flood-proof their boats. Members should also ensure they're able to remove their boat(s) if need-be. Make sure your trailer is accessible and ready."
"We must remember that a loose floating boat will be easily damaged and can damage other boats which are tied-down."
"If you have sails left in the boat - flood water will do them no good! Loose equipment such as foils, paddles, and hand-bailers can be lost. Padded foils-bags might be ruined."
"I don't want to be alarmist, and last year's floods were very unusual. However, it took many weeks hard work to sort-out the mess after the two floods last year. Let's be prepared this year!"
