Young people from age 8 to 17 enjoyed a highly successful Training Week, 21-28 July in which the club’s Recognised Training Centre (RTC) passed its annual Royal Yachting Association (RYA) assessment, securing its future as an RTC.

Training Principal, Lorina Walden says, “Fifteen young people – from 8-year-old beginners to 17-year-old advanced sailors – all developed new skills and had a great time in excellent learning conditions.”

As all sailors were awarded their certificates, young sailor, Jack Elms, age 10 was presented a special award, the Paul Jones memorial trophy by the 2024 trophy-winner, Molly Martineau. Donated in 2010, in memory of a former young sailor, this award is presented to a young sailor who not only successfully progresses his or her sailing – but embodies great positive spirit and commitment to the sport, to the team – and in supporting and encouraging others.

Training Week 2025 also saw the formal launch of the fleet of three new-to-the-club RS Fevas. These will be the club’s essential training craft for young people in a crewed-boat, and for teaching skills in using spinnakers and racing. The Feva fleet has been part-sponsored by donors Mr & Mrs John and Jo Monro-Hunt, in memory of their son, Patrick. Inspired by the stars the boats have been named Lyra, Orion and Aquila – together forming the Club’s very own Patrick Constellation.
