Content	Launching and recovery, sailing across the wind, turning around, steering and basic parts of the boat.	Improved sailing skills on all points of sail. Building confidence in a range of sailing techniques on all points of sail and capsize recovery in moderate winds. Content	Launching and recovering the boat in different circumstances. Stopping, reducing sail, recovering a man overboard, picking up a mooring and anchoring. Fixing a boat to a road trailer. Can sail backwards Can sail without a rudder.	Boat preparation and planning for a day sail, including pilotage, navigation, compass work, chartwork, tides, GPS, dead reckoning and decision making. Can deal with total inversion. Sailing in strong winds. Meteorology.	Learn how to rig the boat, hoist, gybe and drop/recover one type of spinnaker, either conventional or asymmetric. Gain the knowledge and understanding to sail the best possible course downwind. Understanding of apparent wind. Capsize recovery with spinnaker.

Content	All the skills required to start club racing, including how to maximise boat speed and outwit your opponents	A course designed to build on current basic racing skills, helping to improve the key principles of Line bias and the first beat; stopping and hovering; Roll tacks and gybes; adapting the rig and sail settings	A practical course working on the key techniques and knowledge to enable you to take part in a wider range of open meetings and regional competition. This course will cover elements such as Starting from different parts of the line; formulating a pre-start race plan; changing the rig on the water; boat on boat tactics and loose and tight covering

Content	A practical introduction to boat handling and safety in powerboats. It can be taken in planing and displacement boats (the certificate is endorsed accordingly). Elements of the PBL2 course are taught.	A course designed to teach powerboat safety, handling and seamanship in either planing or displacement boats. The course can be taken by novices and this Level is the minimum required by LSC to take out a powerboat unsupervised.	Rescue techniques for a large variety of sailing craft. Towing a disabled sailing or power boat. Dealing with total inversion rescues. Lee shore rescue technique using an anchor. Ability to tie common knots. Recovering people from the water safely without injury to rescuer or rescued.
Certificate issuing criteria	Ability to perform most of the manoevres confidently but requires guidance to complete some. OR Achieved PBL2 standard but not yet 16 years old (n/a at LSC).	Ability to perform all the manoevres confidently. Good awareness of safety requirements and procedures.	Ability to undertake the rescues of the required craft in the syllabus. Excellent safety awareness generally.
