Members' Moment of Power!
Members are invited to take part in the Club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), when you and your family can enjoy our Laying-Up Lunch and take part in the annual Working Party - all on 29 November.
“Members will hear reports from the Treasurer, Membership Secretary and Sailing Secretary and from the Training team – as well as my Commodore’s annual report,” says Commodore, John Mason. “These add-up to a state-of-the-nation assessment of the club, our challenges and our priorities looking forward.”
“Most importantly, at the AGM (at noon), we elect our officers and members of the Executive Committee to lead the Club next year. Members can nominate themselves or others – it’s the members’ moment of power!”
“In addition, the membership subscription fees proposed by the Executive Committee for 2026 have to be endorsed by the membership; and any proposed changes to the Club’s Constitution must also be voted on at an AGM before introduction.”
“By convention our Flag Officers, (Commodore, Rear- and Vice-Commodores) are in-post for a two-year term – and we’re one-year through that period. But this doesn’t have to happen,” John adds. Other officers on the Exec’ remain in post until they choose to step down (although they could in principle be voted off). This year we have a vacancy in the role of Membership Secretary; equally there may be vacancies to join the Executive Committee without portfolio.”
“Members who have booked to store their boat(s) in the Club’s buildings over-winter, should attend at 0930 to be part of the team to “shift-and-lift” boats into place. All other boats must be removed from the Club site by 31 December. We do this because the site often floods and boats can be lost or damaged. Members who have a difficulty with this must contact a member of the Executive Committee as soon as possible.”
John Mason concludes, “The Working Party, AGM and Laying-Up Supper is a busy but fun day – we’d like to see as many members attend as possible.
